On May 7th, 2019, a shooting occurred at STEM School Highlands Ranch in the Denver suburb. This shooting happened not so far from the shooting at Columbine High School. The community was still on edge after marking the 20th anniversary of the shooting that happened there. According to the Washington Post, “The charter school campus has more than 1,800 students in kindergarten through 12th grade.¨

The NBC News states that the suspects were described as an adult male and a younger suspect, which was a female. A school administrator reported shots fired. Later it was confirmed that an 18 year old student was shot and killed.

High School senior, Kendrick Castillo was about to graduate the same week. Castillo was killed in a classroom and was carried out by classmates.

Nui Giasolli was in the same classroom Castillo was in, when a classmate opened fire in the classroom. Nui said that Castillo and several other classmates tried to take the shooter down. The shooter, as said by Nui, pulled out his gun and told them not to move, but Castillo lunged at him. Unfortunately, Castillo got shot.

Other than Kendrick Castillo, eight other students were injured in the shooting.
