The Lady Jags took a win against the Panthers in their first game of a double header on Saturday, March 9. After a long 3 innings, the ladies ended the game with a score of 18-0.

The first inning started with senior Stacy Gonzalez (# 7) getting a base hit. Right after, while sophomore Paige Zimmerman (#13) was up to bat, Gonzalez (#7) stole second, third, and home on a wild pitch by the Panthers pitcher. Zimmerman (#13) got walked and advanced to second by that wild pitch.

Next up was freshman Victoria Mendez (#1), and she was hit by the first pitch, giving her a free base. Next, batter sophomore Alina Lopez (#6) was also walked. Senior Jasmine Cisneros (#11) popped up to the center fielder but she dropped it, allowing Zimmerman to score. This was followed by series of wild pitches by the Panther pitcher, allowing the Lady Jags to score a total of 11 runs in the first inning. The Panthers were only able to get a base hit by their first batter (#17), then no other batter was able to get on base, ending the inning 11-0 with the Jags’ in the lead.

The Lady Jags’ added another 5 runs to the score in the top of the second inning. The bases were loaded and senior Gonzalez (#7) was walked, allowing freshman Bibi Rodriguez (#8) to score. With the bases loaded again, freshman Victoria Mendez (#1) hit a grand slam, bringing in runners, sophomores Lita Suarez (#17), Darlene Davidson (#3) and senior Gonzalez (#7), bringing the score to 16-0. At the bottom of the inning, the Panthers weren’t able to get on base with Zimmerman (#13) on the mound and her defense behind her.

At the top of the third, the Lady Jags’ continued to be walked, scoring 2 more runs to add to the score. Then, at the bottom of the third, the Panthers had three ground outs to end the game on a score of 18-0.

At the end of the game, sophomore Paige Zimmerman (#13) was asked how she felt blowing out another team and she said, “I feel bad because I’ve been on the other side of that, but on the other hand, it’s fun because we got to keep hitting.”
