University Preparatory Baseball lost 6-4 to Faith Baptist on February 28th, 2019 at their home field.

Even though this is the second loss for the baseball team, they are still hopeful for the season. “Yeah,  we aren’t losing anymore, we are going to 17 and 2, meaning 17 wins and only 2 losses,” says Alexis Martin (#2) .

The game started off with Travis Madden (#3) as catcher and Rudy Mejia (#11) as pitcher.  The top half of the 1st inning started with Chris Larson (#16) on the guest team starts off at bat and strikes out. Following with Isaak Fetzer (#18) and Matt Wood (#21) both striking out.

The bottom half of the 1st inning had Matt Wood (#21) as pitcher, the rest of the game he continued to pitch. Jasiah Martinez (#21) started off as batter and hit the ball, then was out. Next, Gustavo Meza (#25) first hit a foul into the street, then made it to first base. Next was Rudy (#11), but he was struck out. When it was Travis Madden’s (#3) turn, he made it to first base, taking Gustavo (#25) to third base. Following Madden, Xavior Campos (#17) went up to the plate, hit the ball and ran to first base. This made all the bases full. Next up to bat was Alex Yuen (#15) who was struck out. Leaving the score as 0-0.

The top half of the second inning started with Rudy (#11) pitching but this time with Thomas Fite (#5) as catcher. Faith Baptist started with player (#24) striking out, Sean Boen (#2) hitting a single, making it to first base, and Luke Rasmussen (#34) hitting a double. Then, Matthew Stupak (#8) to strike out.

Starting, Oscar Rosales (#12) went up but was struck out at the plate. After Rosales, Anthony Lopez (#22) hit a double, taking him to second base. Alexis Martin (#2), the only player of the Jaguars who is left handed, hit a single, taking him to first base, pushing Lopez onto third base. Jasiah Martinez (#21) followed Martin (#2) and hit a single, taking him to first base, placing Martin at 3rd base, and bringing in Martin (#2) for a home run. Meza (#25) went up and hit a single, taking him to first base, bringing Martin in for another homerun, and taking Martinez to 3rd base. Mejia (#11) came up to bat and strikes out, followed by Travis (#3) who let Martinez bring in the run. Making the score 3-0.

The top of the 3rd inning started with Faith Baptist on the plate. Sean Trevino (#14) and Chris Larson (#16) to both strike out. Following, Isaak Fetzer (#18) hit a single. Matt Wood (#21) then came in and made a home-run with Fetzer (#8). 

The bottom of the 3rd inning, Jaguar Campos (#17) came to bat and, when he hit the ball, made his way to first base. Yuen (#15) went on and also hit a single, taking himself to first base and Campos (#17) to second. Rosales (#12) then went up to strike but was struck out. Anthony Lopez (#22) then went to the plate and made his way first base, taking Campos (#17) home, and Yuen (#15) to third. Martin (#2) was struck out after but Jasiah Martinez (#21) redeemed the out with a trip to first base.

The top of the fourth inning was started and ended with the players Luke Rasmussen (#34), Matthew Stupak (#8), and Sean Trevino (#14) to all strike out. The Faith Baptist 3 strike outs in a row put the Jaguars off the field and back into the dug out ready to bat.

In the beginning of the 8th inning, Alexis Martin (#2) started batting and hit the ball to the pitcher, which he caught and caused Martin to be out. Following Martin’s bad luck, Martinez (#21) and Gustavao Meza (#25) to also strike out. Eighth inning ended and 9th started.

Ninth inning began with a hit to center and brought Faith Baptist to first base after hitting a double. The second batter hit a single, bringing both players home. Bringing the score to 6-4. At the bottom of the 9th inning, Mejia (#11) hit a double and ran to 2nd base. However, Madden (#3), Campos (#17),  and Yuen (#15) all struck out, leaving Mejia’s position on 2nd futile.

The loss marked the second one in a row for the University Preparatory baseball players.
