Review: Baked Feta Pasta

Feta pasta is an easy dish to make. All you mainly need is feta cheese, cherry tomatoes, and olive oil. Enjoy!

Quarantine has brought us so many new recipes to try. Tiktok gave entertainment during quarantine and gave us new recipes to try. One of those recipes is baked feta pasta. The recipe was created by Jenni Hayrinen, a blogger from Finland. She called it the “uunifetapasta.”The recipe became so popular in Finland that there was a shortage of feta cheese. The recipe became so popular that blocks of feta cheese sold out. Feta cheese is a good source of protein and calcium which is why people go for it. The pasta recipe moved its way to the U.S. and started becoming viral.  

A blogger named MacKenzie Smith posted a U.S. version of the recipe on Tiktok on January 28, 2021. At first, Smith first posted the recipe in 2019 on her blog Grilled Cheese Social to share Jenni’s creation. The video has over 3 million views as of February 17, 2021. After Smith posted the recipe many more people have recreated it including, Lindseyeatsla, feelgoodfoodie, and FitGreenMind (vegan)

People have their own way in adjusting the recipes to make the food comfortable for them. Tiktok user Cookingwithayeh cooks her own variation of the pasta. Ayeh cooked hers with mushrooms and red onions instead of cherry tomatoes. Carleigh Bodrug veganized the feta pasta. Bodrug replaced the feta cheese with tofu, nooch, cashews, salt, garlic powder, and vinegar. 

“The recipe is so good! I was scrolling through my social media and came across a baked feta pasta video. I love trying new recipes I find online so I gave it a go. The results were amazing! All you need are cherry tomatoes, feta cheese, and salt and pepper. Anyone can make it!” Sophomore Elena Jimenez remarked. 

“If I wasn’t in the mood to go out to eat, then I would definitely make this. It is super easy and affordable. It is definitely worth the hype,” sophomore Grant Santos said. 

For MacKenzie Smith’s recipe, first, add cherry tomatoes, olive oil, and salt to a pot and mix. Second, add a block of feta cheese in the middle and drizzle olive oil on top and red pepper flakes. Bake the dish to 400 degrees and then move the temperature up to 450 for the last ten minutes. Mix and then add desired pasta noodles into the pot and enjoy! Overall, baked feta pasta only requires a few ingredients to make. It requires little skill and it’s very easy to make!
